Systems Analyst Information

How much money can I make?

A third question that I had about being a systems analyst was how much money can I make. Perjasa had a listing that an annual average income for a full-time systems analyst would be $42,100. They got their information from a 1992 listing from the U.S. Department of Labor. Since that was 7 years ago I looked up the U.S. Department of Labor's web page to see if I could find a more recent quote or an estimate for when I will graduate from college. I found out that in 1997 a systems analyst, depending on what they specialized in, could make anywhere around $24.00 an hour, which is about $50,000 a year. I figure that with inflation I could possibly make about $55,000 when I graduate from college.

What kind od work will I be doing?
One of the first questions I wanted to know about being a systems analyst is what kind of work I will be doing. The answer to this question, I found on a site by a group called Perjasa. It is made up of a group of systems analysts from Malaysia. I read that a systems analyst job includes, using requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer systems. I would be responsible for overseeing the development process for new software and hardware.

Where are the jobs?
Since I live here in rural Pennsylvania and I know I won't find a good job in this area, I was wondering where I would have to move for a job. I searched many of the job list web sites and I found out that these jobs are spread out all over the country and are for various companies. These companies are listed simply as insurance companies and are also listed by company names such as Microsoft. Many of the jobs were in big cities and for big companies. Some of the companies include Microsoft, Eastman Chemical Company, Peak Technologies, Apple One Technologies, RHI, Romac International, and Corporate Bridge Incorporated. They are located in places like Chicago, New York, Orlando, Seattle, Philadelphia, Tennessee, and there are also some listings for Canada. If I decide to stay in Pennsylvania I will still have to move. Most of the listings for Pennsylvania are located in the eastern part of the state.
